Synetic Theater Announces Upcoming Season Including DRACULA & METAMORPHOSIS

Synetic Theater is thrilled to announce its upcoming season- a diverse tapestry of classic tales. This season, Synetic will feature four thrilling main stage productions, treating audiences to its rich synthesis of movement, dance, text, and music; first, with a revival and startling revision of their acclaimed adaptation of Bram Stoker's legendary Dracula, followed by a new installment in their "Silent Shakespeare" series, Antony and Cleopatra, as part of our contribution to Washington's renowned Shakespeare Theatre Company's leadership repertory-a first-ever collaboration in Synetic history. Synetic will also lend its signature style to a bold new production of Franz Kafka's bizarre, eerie Metamorphosis, and, rounding out the season, Synetic is proud to announce another exploration of their "art of silence" with Shakespeare's timeless Othello.

In an extraordinary season that is sure to delight, challenge, and haunt audiences, Synetic Theater offers an eclectic mix of gothic horror, Shakespearean tragedy, and quirky, allegorical satire-- a season astonishingly ambitious and varied in nature. Additionally, Synetic Theater is pleased to announce that its production of Othello will be part of the International VSA arts Festival, which brings together artists, educators, researchers, and policy makers with disabilities from around the world in a multicultural celebration of arts and arts education. Synetic Theater will join an international group of visual, performing, literary, and media artists, and a guest list that includes over two thousand participants from around the globe.

SYNETIC MAIN STAGE SEASON 2009/10

DRACULA
From vampiric wolves howling in the Transylvanian night to the erotic blood-lust of the demonic Count and his consorts, Bram Stoker's gothic dreamscape has stood the test of time in the imaginations of innumerable artists, and now Synetic Theater takes its place among them. Multiple Helen Hayes Award winners Paata and Irina Tsikurishvili lend their ferocious theatricality to a Dracula that is not to be missed. Synetic presents a new restaging of the acclaimed 2005 production-- a tale of horror and the undying strength of the human spirit.

ANTONY AND CLEOPATRA
With a text featuring some of the most sublime poetry in the English language, Synetic Theater now explores one of Shakespeare's last great tragedies with their haunting "art of silence"-- a tale of the powerful Egyptian queen asserting her claim on the warrior Antony, even as Imperial Rome asserts its claim on him. Using their thrilling blend of music, movement, and dance, Synetic Theater will lay bare the heart of this doomed and legendary affair-- a story of the love and loss that gave birth to an empire. Presented concurrently during the Shakespeare Theater Company's leadership repertory and performing in the Lansburgh Theatre, Antony and Cleopatra will star company member Ben Cunis and resident choreographer Irina Tsikurishvili in the title roles.

METAMORPHOSIS
Guest director Derek Goldman presents a reimagining of Franz Kafka's brilliant and darkly comic classic tale of family, alienation - and a giant bug. With Irina Tsikurishvili's masterful choreography, Synetic's expertly drilled ensemble will bring Kafka's prose to vivid life, reviving the story's humor and poignancy in a way that will both surprise and delight audiences and readers of Kafka alike.

OTHELLO
Once again infusing one of Shakespeare's most poignant tragedies with their "art of silence", Synetic Theater now explores this tale of love destroyed by jealousy. When the general Othello triumphantly returns home to the promise of peace and marriage, little can he know that his most trusted lieutenant is also one of the most fiendish and manipulative villains imaginable. Scandal is fueled, families and friendships destroyed, as Othello's world comes crashing down, until a "trifle light as air" - a handkerchief-- undoes them all.
