Arts on the Horizon, the DC metro area's only theatre company dedicated exclusively to creating original work for children ages 0-6, is excited to announce its final show of the season, By the Seashore, which runs July 13-29, 2017 at The Lab at Convergence in Alexandria, Virginia.

By the Seashore takes children on a whimsical journey to a place where they love to visit - the beach! From birds and fish, to sand and water, and everything in-between, young audience members are invited to explore all of the amazing things found on the shore, in the ocean, and in the sky (with no need for sunscreen or scuba gear!). Using an imaginative mix of puppetry, movement, and sound, this sensory-filled production is specifically designed for babies and young toddlers.

The show is directed and co-created by Kate Debelack, a DC-area director, actor, and instructor at the Studio Theatre Acting Conservatory. She is a proud company member of Arts on the Horizon, having previously directed Arts on the Horizon's production of Sunny and Licorice. Other directing and acting credits include the One Minute Play Festival, Capital Fringe, Cherry Red Productions, the Kennedy Center Theater for Young Audiences, Shakespeare Theatre, Studio Theatre, Forum Theatre, and MetroStage.

The show's Co-Creator is Betsy Rosen. Betsy's previous Arts on the Horizon credits include Drumming with Dishes andUnder the Canopy. Her regional acting and puppetry credits include such venues as Lincoln Center, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, Imagination Stage, Folger Theatre, Studio Theatre, Round House Theatre, Woolly Mammoth, and Forum Theatre.

The cast is comprised of a trio of talented local actors as puppeteers. Originally from Texas, Guadalupe Campos moved to the area after touring with Olney Theatre's National Players. Other regional credits are TheatreSquared, NWA New Play Festival, and The Border Theatre. Sydney Lo has worked with such companies as Pointless Theatre Company, the Virginia Shakespeare Festival, and Young Playwright's Theatre. Zana Gankhuyag previously understudied for Arts on the Horizon last winter in Adventures with Mr. Bear. Zana is a company member with Synetic Theater, and has performed in over 10 shows with the company.

The show's set and props designer, Kat Fleshman, has worked with such area companies as Mosaic Theatre Company, Flying V, and Red Branch Theatre and is a full time teacher at the Carver Center for Art and Technology.

About Arts on the Horizon

Arts on the Horizon, founded in 2009, is a non-profit theatre with a specific focus of providing performances and education programs for the very young. Our performances are designed to take place in an intimate setting where children not only feel comfortable to learn and explore, but are also an integral part of the performance. We have the utmost respect for children and want what may be their first theatrical performance to entertain them, challenge them, spark creativity and enhance the imaginative play in which many children this age engage. Since 2011, our non-verbal productions have been performed on the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage, Atlas Performing Arts Center, Workhouse Arts Center, The Athenaeum and other venues and schools in the DC metro area. In Spring of 2015, Arts on the Horizon's show, Blossom's Rainbow, was an event of the 2015 National Cherry Blossom Festival. Arts on the Horizon was honored to be nominated for The 2016 John Aniello Award for Outstanding Emerging Theatre Company.
