Rainbow Theatre Project Announces Their 2018/19 Season

Rainbow Theatre Project Producing Artistic Director H. Lee Gable and Managing Director Michael Kelley announce the 2018/19 season, which will include three full productions and two performances. During Rainbow Theatre Project's sixth season, the company will be in residence at the District of Columbia Arts Center.

"We are now entering our sixth season as a theatre company and part of me can't believe we have made it this far. I marvel at what we have accomplished. We have pursued new plays and reached deep into the classical canon to present older plays that are not often seen," shared Producing Artistic Director H. Lee Gable. "We have presented individual performances by members of LGBTQ community, from cabarets to drag shows. We have told the stories from our community about the military, about women, about LatinX youth. We have told stories about being transgender, being a person of color, about being a Muslim. We have told stories about love and about being discriminated. Our continuing goal is to present as different and diverse collection of work that best entertains and represents the nature of the LGBTQ community, our community."

The season will kick off in August with the world premiere production of Siegmund Fuchs' In the Closet, a metaphysical comedy that follows four men, each living during a different time period, as they look at their lives in the place where all gay men begin, in the closet. This will be followed by a performance of A Deafening Sound (A Cabaret by Jeffrey Higgins) written and directed by Jeffrey Higgins. The season will continue with a production of Paul Rudnick's Jeffrey, a play that reminds audiences of a time when the LGBTQ community was beginning to come to grips with what it was like to live with AIDS. This will be followed by a production of Tennessee Williams' Clothes for a Summer Hotel, which looks at the lives of F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald. The season will close with Stonewall 50, an eclectic celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Stonewall.
