Prologue Theatre Announces Inaugural Season
Arlington's newest professional theatre company, Prologue Theatre, is launching its inaugural season in January 2019 with Heidi Schreck's Grand Concourse. This intimate four-character play challenges audiences to consider a variety of perspectives as the lives of Shelley, Emma, Oscar, and Frog intersect at a Bronx soup kitchen. The production will be performed at the Key Bridge Marriott, 1401 Lee Hwy, Arlington, VA 22209, from January 24 to February 17, 2019. Performances will begin at 8 pm on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays and at 2 pm on Saturdays and Sundays.
The season will continue with DOG SEES GOD: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead, by Burt V. Royal, April 25 to May 19, 2019, and The Explorers Club, by Nell Benjamin July 11 to August 4, 2019.
"The vision for Prologue Theatre is for the plays we present to be the catalyst for deeper community dialogue on topics that people often find it harder to talk openly about," said Founding Artistic Director Jason Tamborini. "The plays in our first season have been chosen because of the way they cover tough topics; they cover them with poise and with grace but also, every once in a while, with a sucker punch that hits hard but does it in a way that is beautiful."
Once a week, during the run of each play, Prologue Theatre will host a free community dialogue. The format will change each week and be dependent on the core messages and themes of each play, but the intention remains the same.
"Encouraging civil discourse that invites participants to not only share their own thoughts but also listen to others and consider other points of view, within the context of the art, is a key goal of our community dialogues," Tamborini said.
Tickets range in price from $20 - $30 and can be purchased online via Prologue's website (www.prologuetheatre.org) or at the door.
