Monumental Theatre Company Announces Black Girl Magic Concert

By:

Monumental Theatre Company will present 'Black Girl Magic,' a fundraising concert for their upcoming season, on November 27, 2018. The concert will feature local Black artists Jade Jones (Mrs. Lovett in Rep Stage's Sweeney Todd), Awa Sal Secka (Simon Zealotes in Signature Theatre's Jesus Christ Superstar) and Ines Nassara (Dorothy in Ford's Theatre's The Wiz). The women will be performing popular songs and standards, as well as audience favorites from hit musicals. The concert will be music directed by Chris Urquiaga, a singer songwriter whose album "I'm Here" is currently available on all platforms.

"We're thrilled to have such talented local artists joining us this year on #GivingTuesday," said Co-Artistic Director, Jimmy Mavrikes. #GivingTuesday is a global day of giving which utilizes social media to spread the word about unique causes and is celebrated annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, falling this year on November 27.

Donations will be taken at the concert and will go towards the #GivingTuesday drive for the 2019 season. Monumental Theatre Company has big goals for future seasons, "We're working towards acquiring a permanent performance space for the company, so every little bit helps," said Mavrikes.

Monumental Theatre Company's upcoming 2019 season includes the new musical workshop Dress Up Day, the romantic musical Daddy Long Legs, their annual Flip Flop cabaret and the smash hit musical Be More Chill.

Monumental Theatre Company's Black Girl Magic Fundraising Concert starring Jade Jones, Awa Sal Secka and Ines Nassara will be held on November 27, 2018, at DC9-located at 1940 9th St NW, Washington, DC 20001. Doors will open at 7:30pm and the concert will begin at 8:00pm. Tickets can be purchased online at https://www.dc9.club/event/1778196.
