Possessing one of the biggest and most powerful soul voices of the last quarter century, Jennifer Holliday received a Tony Award® and Drama Desk Award for Best Actress in a Musical for her role as Effie in the original Broadway production of Dreamgirls. It was this tragic and triumphant role and her show-stopping performance of the ballad "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going" that made her a star. Ms. Holliday's other stage credits include performances in the Broadway revivals of Chicago, Grease, and Your Arms Too Short to Box With God, and the national tour of Sing, Mahalia, Sing. Her albums include Feel My Soul (produced by Earth, Wind & Fire leader Maurice White), Say You Love Me, Get Close to My Love, I'm On Your Side, and the Gospel album On & On.

Marvin Hamlisch, now in his eleventh season as Principal Pops Conductor of the National Symphony Orchestra, is the first person to hold that position with the NSO. As composer, Hamlisch has won virtually every major award that exists: three Oscars®, four Grammys®, four Emmys, a Tony® and three Golden Globe awards; his groundbreaking show, A Chorus Line, received a Pulitzer Prize. Under Hamlisch's leadership, the National Symphony Orchestra Pops season is marked by a wide variety of musical forms-jazz, Broadway musicals, oldies, and more-and a distinctive mixture of major artists and emerging talents.
