Alden Theatre Presents "The Wizard of One-Liners" Al Simmons in SOUNDS CRAZY: THE SCIENCE OF MUSIC, 11/7
Canadian children's entertainer Al Simmons will perform Sounds Crazy: The Science of Music, at McLean's Alden Theatre at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7. Tickets are $14, $10 for McLean district residents. The theatre is located at 1234 Ingleside Avenue.
In Sounds Crazy, Simmons demonstrates, with hilarious results, how the various instruments of a symphony orchestra make music. The principles of sound waves, vibrations, resonance, and pitch are clearly explained as he plays his bizarre homemade versions of stringed, woodwind, brass and percussion instruments. He also coaxes music out of tin cans, soda straws, garden hoses, plastic drink bottles, rulers, coat hangers, and even a turkey baster. By way of hilarious example, he explains how his crude instruments are similar to their more expensive counterparts. Simmons also teaches children the importance of recycling and re-using and that they, too, can make music out of found items-even stuff that is headed for the landfill. "You'll be consumed by laughter when Al Simmons lets his zany comedy loose."-Variety
