Verdantrics Production Company, Burlington’s long-standing all-student-run theatre group, is thrilled to present The One-Act Play That Goes Wrong, running August 1-3 at the Off Center for the Dramatic Arts. Written by Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer, and Henry Shields, The One-Act Play That Goes Wrong is the original, one-act version of what would later become the global phenomenon The Play That Goes Wrong. This early nugget of theatrical history premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2012, and served as the foundation for the full-length West End and Broadway smash. It delivers 75 minutes of nonstop chaos and laughter as the fictional Cornley Amateur Dramatics Society attempts to stage a 1920s murder mystery—only to be foiled by missed cues, falling scenery, and escalating disaster. This is Verdantrics’ fourth production since the company was founded by Burlington-area students, Tommy Bergeron and Shea Dunlop, six years ago. Their hope was to create a production company that would be run by students for students and that it could be handed on from generation to generation with each new cohort of students mentoring the next. To date the dream has been a successful one. From directing and acting to set design and production management, every aspect of the show is led entirely by students with a passion for theater and collaboration. Expect impressive stagecraft, hilarious comedic performances, and a relentless pace that keeps you laughing from start to finish as the chaos increases. Whether you’re a fan of classic farce or new to the world of theatrical comedy, this is a show that will leave you grinning long after the final bow. The Play That Goes Wrong is a love letter to the stage—and the one act version is a chance to see how it all began. Verdantrics invites you to witness the glorious train wreck unfold as everything that can go wrong.... does. Performances of The One-Act Play That Goes Wrong will take place at the Off Center for the Dramatic Arts (1127 North Ave, Burlington) on August 1 at 7:00 PM, August 2 at 2:00 PM and 7.00PM, and August 3 at 7.00 PM. Tickets are $15 general admission ($10 for students) available at Theater Engine https://theaterengine.com/productions/2937
