Don't miss this rare treat! This evening, Feb 21 at 7:30pm, The Starry Mountain Singers (featuring members of the beloved Sweetback Sisters) will grace the Sandglass stage with their gorgeous and intoxicating harmonies!

An ensemble of eight vocalists, the Starry Mountain Singers perform a wide range of traditional music from around the United States and wider world. Formed in 2010, the group's members are all lifelong musicians who share a deep love of traditional vocal styles and a dedication to studying and performing these types of polyphony.

The Starry Mountain Singers are: Stefan Amidon, Zara Bode, Avery Book, Gideon Crevoshay, Jeff Fellinger, Emily Miller, Nathan Morrison & Suzannah Park.

Their musical program features traditional songs from the United States, Bulgaria, Corsica and Caucasus Georgia. The American repertoire includes shape-note songs (a traditional New England song style), powerful gospel numbers, cowboy songs, and haunting folk tunes from the Appalachians. The Georgian, Corsican and Bulgarian songs are a mixture of sacred and secular pieces that demonstrate the incredible range of unique singing traditions from those countries. Each member has contributed songs from his or her particular area of musical knowledge and expertise, resulting in a dynamic and eclectic program that will delight world-music fans and lovers of choral performance.

"The Starry Mountain Singers are a group comprised of young adults who have a rare musical alchemy. The roots go deep, the soaring flies high, the pleasure of communing musically is palpable and when their chords line up, which seems to be always, the air in the room seems to shift and rearrange. Imagine breathing that air. It's got to be healing.THIS, I thought is what music does to ones cells and bones and spirit. GO!" ~Marytha Pafrath of 'Libana'
