Spring Awakening is a raw, explosive coming-of-age musical that cuts straight to the heart of youth, desire, repression and rebellion. Set in 1890s Germany, the story follows a group of young people discovering sex, love and identity in a society that refuses to educate or protect them.
With a raw, modern score by Duncan Sheik and a book by Steven Sater, Spring Awakening blends historical setting with urgent, present-day relevance.
This production comes from Inspired By Theatre, the company behind bold York-based productions of American Idiot, RENT and Jesus Christ Superstar. Direct, intense and deeply relevant, Spring Awakening is a musical that still shocks, still resonates, and still matters
Please note: Spring Awakening contains mature themes, including sexual content, sexual assault, suicide, abortion, physical abuse and strong language.
Recommended for audiences aged 15+
