Yianni Agisilaou Returns to Edinburgh with POCKETS OF EQUALITY

Following sell out shows in Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide this year, award winning comic Yianni returns to Edinburgh for his 10th solo Fringe show.

Known for his social commentary shows, Pockets of Equality came into being after Yianni accidentally wore his girlfriend's jeans and discovered that when it comes to pockets, women are far from equal.

In this show, which has been grabbing five star reviews across Oz, Yianni explores the preposterous rules, double-standards and expectations society lumps on us depending on which bits we're born with.

"I hope that I've succeeded in not 'mansplaining' feminism. I try to speak from my own experience and, although women often cop the worst parts of society's double standards (something I discuss in the show) the demands of masculinity cause lots of problems for men in society as well. These are things that everyone experiences but might not even always realise because they're so baked into our culture." Yianni

Have you ever pondered a world where men share deep, meaningful conversations over a tub of 'Ben & Jerry's'; you can take the piss out of a bride during a wedding speech; and the word 'vagina' openly appears on chemist's shelves, rather than being alluded to in euphemistic tones? Yianni has, and strips away the concealer giving modern society an hour-long #NoMakeupSelfie.

We've come a long way. We don't bat an eyelid at short haired women or male nurses. Shipwrecks have progressed from Stone Age 'women and children first' affairs, to egalitarian 'push anyone down' pandemonia. But Yianni still stifled his own tears in a darkened cinema during Les Mis, so there's a long way to go.
