Families across the area are gearing up for a weekend of fun and games as Warrington Museum and Art Gallery prepares for a number of hands-on events.

As the glorious weather looks set to continue long into July, Warrington Museum and Art Gallery has teamed up with artist Julie Scott to take a look at how nature has inspired some of art's greatest masters.

Julie's distinctive paintings are widely recognised across the industry for their intricate detail and wonderful collage effect, but a huge part of her work involves sketching on location, and she is particularly inspired by the majestic landscapes of Cumbria and Italy.

Now, Warrington Museum & Art Gallery is inviting you to learn the tricks of the trade as you create your own nature-inspired masterpieces under Julie's expert guidance.

The Inspired by Nature workshop is one of many sessions delivered by top artists at the museum this summer, thanks to funding from the Weston Loan Programme with Art Fund.

This session will take place between 10am and 1pm this Saturday (7 July) at Warrington Museum and Art Gallery, and places need to be booked via the Warrington Museum and Art Gallery website.

Plus, there's plenty of fun for younger artists too, as this week's free Crafternoon session is brimming with patriotic pride as we make our very own World War Two paper aeroplanes.

Our popular Crafternoons take place every Saturday between 1pm and 3pm.

And as if that wasn't enough, the museum will be opening its doors once again this Sunday in partnership with the ever-popular Makers Market in Queens Gardens.

Last month's Star Wars-themed event went down an absolute storm (trooper!), and now the museum is ready to entertain visitors again with a whole range of things to keep the entire family entertained.

In addition, this is also the perfect chance to see the museum's impressive range of exhibitions and displays, from our very own Egyptian mummies, to exploring our wide range of fine and contemporary art, or perhaps taking a final look at how much healthcare in Warrington has changed over the past 70 years, in the week the NHS celebrates is birthday.

Mike Roberts, visitor services officer at Warrington Museum and Art Gallery, said: "It's always great to welcome professional artists into the museum and we're excited to be able to connect them with aspiring artists in the community. We're also delighted to be opening once again this Sunday to coincide with The Makers Market. It fills the Cultural Quarter with a fantastic buzz and it's great to see new and old faces alike."

The museum will be open between 11am and 3pm this Sunday.
