Liverpool's Vogue Ball is now just three months away. And this year's event is set to welcome a special new commission which puts deaf and disability arts and artists at the heart of the action.

The 2017 Vogue Ball - organised by House of Suarez - takes place on Saturday 21 October when the multi award-winning event returns to Liverpool's hottest arts and performance space, the Invisible Wind Factory.

Fittings Multimedia Arts will present Vogue: The Unlimited House of Krip, which celebrates the fusion of deaf and disabled performers with the gloriously extravagant world of vogue ball culture.

The development of the project will be funded by Unlimited as one of its 2017/18 commissions, which aim to shift perceptions of disabled people by embedding the work of disabled artists into the UK and international cultural sectors.

Fittings Multimedia Arts' Artistic Director Garry Robson, and choreographers Mark Smith (Artistic Director, Deaf Men Dancing) and Darren Suarez (Artistic Director, House of Suarez), will form a "House" of deaf and disabled performers to walk in the Vogue Ball.

The House (the name for a team or family of performers who compete in balls) will perform at the ball this October bringing their own unique take on Vogue while incorporating sign language and audio description for deaf and visually impaired audiences.

The full process from auditions to the ball will be recorded by First Take Film and Media, juxtaposing the history of the balls and their celebration of diversity and difference with the lives and experiences of the members of the Unlimited House of Krip.

The inspiration for the project came when Garry experienced the Vogue Ball first hand and was struck by the spectacle of the event, the celebration of difference and the similarities between the arm and body movements within vogue dance and sign language. He felt that all that was missing from the ball was a disabled house - a House of Krip.

Garry said: "At the heart of all Fittings' work is a celebration of diverse cultures, hidden and untold stories and the integration of disabled and non-disabled artists and this project is our most ambitious to date.

"We're so excited to be able to bring the vogue and disability cultures together as part of such a spectacular event and with such talented artists. The performances created by the House of Krip will showcase the fierceness of both worlds on the same stage for the first time."

Fittings has selected four performers who will work together alongside the choreographers, designers and film maker in the run up to the ball.

Updates will be announced on Fittings' website and social media pages and the film following the whole process will be showcased as part of the Unlimited Festival at London's Southbank Centre in late summer 2018.

The increasingly popular Vogue Ball is the ultimate dance event, giving Voguers an amazing and memorable evening. Vogueing often imitates the perfect lines and flexibility of model poses seen in magazines such as Vogue, the fashion magazine from which the dance style took its name.

House of Suarez will transform the dockside venue in breath-taking fashion to reflect the theme of the 2017 ball, the Se7en Deadly Sins.

The ball invites the best Vogue teams [known as 'Houses'] to battle it out in a fight for ultimate dance supremacy. And all Voguers' favourite parts of the evening are back once again, along with a new category for 2017 - the Lip Sync Battle.

Meanwhile the ball will also see the return of popular host Rikki Beadle-Blair.
