Tom Chambers Shares 'Top' Tips To Local Performers

Two young stars from South Staffs Musical Theatre Company's October production of TOP HAT, have stepped onto stage at the Grand Theatre early to meet the musical's original West End star Tom Chambers.

TV and theatre actor Tom Chambers who won the sixth series Strictly Come Dancing is currently starring as Bobby Childs in the hit Gershwin musical CRAZY FOR YOU at the Grand Theatre this week until Saturday 12 May.

Tom met with Harry Simkin, aged 17 from Great Wyrley and Fiona Winning, aged 16, from Tettenhall who will play Jerry Travers and Dale Tremont in TOP HAT at the Grand Theatre from Tuesday 9 - Saturday 13 October.

Ahead of meeting Tom on stage, Harry and Fiona got the opportunity to watch him in the UK tour of CRAZY FOR YOU this week at the Grand, which also stars Claire Sweeney and Charlotte Wakefield.

Harry said; "It was a privilege to meet Tom and take the opportunity to talk about the role which he played in the West End production of Top Hat. I got the chance to watch him perform in Crazy For You on the Grand Theatre stage and I can't wait to take to the same stage for the first time later this year."

Fiona who has previously appeared in professional productions of Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and The King And I at the Grand theatre said; "Top Hat is my favourite musical and I'm looking forward to performing it in October, it will be my tenth show on the Grand Theatre stage. To dance, even for a moment, with Tom Chambers was a dream and I can't wait to create my own version of Dale Tremont."

South Staffs Musical Theatre Company's production of TOP HAT brings the glamour of Hollywood's golden age and the glorious, tap-dancing magic of Fred Astaire's and Ginger Rogers' world-famous dance partnership to the stage. This 2011 musical based on the 1935 film of the same name, tells the story of Broadway sensation Jerry Travers who dances his way across Europe to win the heart of society girl Dale Tremont.
