Theatre Royal Winchester Announces November Lineup, Including Two WWI Events

Theatre Royal Winchester has a busy programme of varied performance this November, including two special events commemorating the centenary of the end of the First World War.

The venue welcomes comedian and broadcaster Nicholas Parsons on Saturday 03 November. Host of Radio 4's hit show Just a minute, A Laugh a Minute is Parsons' vibrant must-see new production featuring an audience Q&A. On Wednesday 21 November Stewart Francis' Into the Punset comes to the venue. Known for his performances on Mock the Week, Live at the Apollo and Crackerjack, the comedian visits Winchester as part of his last ever tour.

To mark the centenary of the end of the First World War, Theatre Royal Winchester has programmed two special events this autumn. On Sunday 11 November Michael Pennington, John Miller and Pamela Miles visit the city for The Armistice Centenary Recalled. The dramatic recital draws on contemporary writings in poetry and prose to recreate the moods and passions of those involved at the time.

Scamp Theatre presents Michael Morpurgo's Private Peaceful, playing Tuesday 13 to Saturday 17 November. Adapted and directed for the stage by Simon Reade, this critically-acclaimed production relives the life of Private Tommo Peaceful, a young soldier awaiting the firing squad at dawn. Programmed as part of the venue's World War One centenary, the show is a moving exploration of war.

On Monday 12 November acclaimed television wildlife cameraman Gordan Buchanan presents Animal Families and Me. A unique opportunity for audiences to hear personal recollections of the BBC presenter's globetrotting travels, the evening promises to be a wild and wonderful adventure.

Welsh National Opera presents Rhondda Rips it Up! at the venue on Tuesday 20 November. A sold-out rip-roaring music-hall comedy, the evening follows a bespoke workshop weekend for young people on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18. The two-day musical-theatre course is open to every young person aged 10-18 and explores composing, singing, acting and designing.
