The Yard has just been awarded the Empty Space Peter Brook Award 2017, in the 28th and final year of the awards. The Yard was picked from seven nominees by a judging panel including critics Matt Trueman, Lyn Gardner, Dominic Cavendish, Mark Shenton, Fiona Mountford and Andrzej Lukowski. The Yard was described as "telling exhilarating contemporary stories in contemporary ways".

The award marks The Yard's sixth year, which critic Matt Trueman described ahead of the awards as "far and away... its best yet". In 2017 The Yard was announced as one Arts Council England's National Portfolio Organisations, and this week it brings back a show for the first time ever, This Beautiful Future.

The Yard's Artistic Director Jay Miller:

"The Empty Space awards have celebrated innovation in theatre since their beginnings and we're beyond thrilled to be in such great company in winning this award. In 6 years a lot has happened to The Yard, but three beliefs hold true: we believe in the expanding, exploding live moment and its power; in giving artists the opportunity to express themselves regardless of where they're from and how they identify; and in the civic responsibility of theatre."

This Beautiful Future returns to The Yard from November 2.
