The Point, Eastleigh Announces Associate Artists For 2019/20

Today The Point, Eastleigh announces its new wave of Associate Artists for 2019/20. The four selected artists, working across contemporary dance and theatre, will work closely with the venue from the start of April over a 12 month period of structured support.

The Point's flagship Associate Artist programme, made possible with thanks to the venue's Arts Council England NPO funding offers artists and companies - working across all disciplines - the opportunity to work closely with the venue to grow their practice and develop as a professional company or practitioner. The programme was created in 2009 and over the last ten years artists supported by the programme have gone on to become Arts Council National Portfolio Organisations (ZoieLogic Dance Theatre) to win Fringe First Awards (Milk Presents), Total Theatre Awards (Two Destination Language) received commissions including Shift and Share (Joli Vyann) and toured nationally and internationally (Theatre Re).

The Point's Associate programme is one of the venue's three pivotal artist support systems, designed to support and nurture artists and companies at different stages in their professional careers. The venue's Creative Producer (Dance) Vicki Hargreaves said:

"We are extremely excited to welcome this next cohort to the associate programme. We were overwhelmed with the response this year, which shows just how important these programmes are to supporting artists to develop ideas and flourish growing their practise and the creative industry. Offering bespoke packages to fit with the needs and wants of each artist is what we aim for, and we can't wait to get started."

The Point's 2019/2020 Associate Artists are: The Outbound Project, an award winning theatre company creating visually dynamic work combining movement, ensemble and imaginative storytelling; JAMS led by Louisa White, are a group of Hampshire based artists committed to bringing Joyful Arts Movement and Song to individuals living in care and in the community; local theatre-maker and collector of stories Anna Carr and Amy Morvell an emerging female contemporary dance artist based in the South East of England.

"With the support offered we will be creating a performance piece that will captivate the dementia community at large, enabling our art to have the biggest impact." - Louisa White, JAMS

As Associate Artists for 2019/20, the four selected companies will receive vital mentoring and developmental support from The Point's creative team including access to the venue's on-site Creation Space, allowing them time in residence to create new touring work. The four companies will also be involved in community outreach projects, delivering workshops and engaging the wider local residents in the Borough of Eastleigh.

The venue will continue to work closely with their cohort of Supported Artists and five @HOME artists as part of its NPO four year cycle; internationally renowned physical theatre company Theatre Re, boundary blurring aerial-circus-dance company Joli Vyann, leading aerial dance company Gravity & Levity, innovative contemporary performance company Lîla Dance and noted family theatre company Stuff & Nonsense Theatre Company.
