The Point Announces Autumn Season of Bold Theatre, Dance and Comedy

Today The Point announces its autumn season of work. The venue continues its programming of bold and exciting theatre, dance and comedy, showcasing some of the best national and international companies and artists touring today.

Kicking off The Point's season of theatre is returning company Vamos Theatre with Finding Joy, a co-production with The Hereford Courtyard and Jabadoe, on Saturday 23rd September. The show is a moving and joyous exploration of one family's experience of Dementia, told by the UK's leading full mask theatre company.

On Wednesday 18th October Royal & Derngate, Wardrobe Ensemble and Shoreditch Town Hall presents Education, Education, Education. This much-anticipated theatre show is a love letter to the 1990's, exploring what we learn during our schooldays. The production follows The Wardrobe Ensemble's critically acclaimed 2015 Edinburgh Fringe show 1972: The Future of Sex.

The Point plays host to a number of exciting contemporary dance company's this season welcoming Avante Garde Dance and The Place with the highly antipcated Fagin's Twist on 20th and 21st October. Later in the month Let's All Dance presents The Owl & The Pussycat; this original ballet is suitable for all aged 2 and up and acts as a wonderful introduction to professional dance for the very young.

Headlining The Point's main auditorium on Thursday 2nd November is returning company Protein Dance with Border Tales. The award-winning collective present a thought-provoking story of the multicultural Britain we live in via dance, live music and dialogue. Supporting the company is emerging artist Katie Dale -Everett with the technically-impressive Digital Tattoo (tickets are free for those attending Border Tales).

The Eastleigh venue welcomes a host of brilliant comedians this season including The Noise Next Door with Uproar, audience favourite Mark Thomas with A Show That Gambles on the Future and Omid Djalili with Schmuck For a Night. Jason Manford will also grace the venue with an unmissable stand-up performance to a sold-out auditorium.

In a new series of professional work-in-progress sharings, two celebrated companies will present work in The Point's Creation Space beginning with Stopgap Dance Company's Incantatio on Thursday 12th October. After winning acclaim at the 70th annual Edinburgh Festival Fringe, The Point's Associate Artists Theatre Re presents Birth on Friday 24th November; this is an opportunity to preview the celebrated company's newest work before it tours the country in 2018. Tickets for both are priced at just £8.

The Point's foyer will also play host to daring theatre company Milk Presents as they bring their delightfully anarchic cabaret Joan to the venue on Saturday 21st October and House of Stray Cats presents The Dream Factory later in the month; this puppet-led performance is suitable for children aged 4+ and their families.

The Point's Christmas programme will see two festive Point Youth Theatre productions, beginning with a charismatic re-telling of The Gingerbread Man, running 30th November to 2nd December, followed by an enchanting production of The Sleeping Beauty, 19th to 24th December. Both shows have been written by local playwright Matt Beames and will feature an ensemble cast made up of members of the venue's Youth Theatre. The Creation Space, a double-height performance hub at The Point, will also play host to a festive production as Commotion Dance presents Where is Christmas?, an interactive dance-theatre show for young children aged 5 and under, playing 15th to 17th December.

The venue is also launching a number of home-grown events this autumn including The Foyer Sessions - an evening of free local music - presented in partnership with SoCo Music Project. Alongside this, the Watch this Space Gallery, curated by Artist Sarah Jeffries will see the work of eight artists on display in a free exhibition running throughout the season.

The Point continues its Accessible Cinema strand this season, offering a bespoke movie-going experience in an environment tailored to meet additional needs, alongside a full programme of film, including screenings of Dunkirk and An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power. The venue will also screen three unmissable Live Screenings of West End productions including an Encore of Hamlet starring Benedict Cumberbatch.

A highlight of the season includes the return of Eastleigh Film Festival. Running 25th to 30th September, the fourth annual festival will see 19 films screened at 12 unique venues as the Borough comes alive with memorable movie-going moments. All tickets are priced at just £10 or below.
