The Marlowe Studio is to start producing its own work for the first time.
Supported by public funding from the National Lottery through Arts Council England's Grant for the arts programme, the money, nearly £23,000, will be used to create and premiere the new play at the Canterbury venue. This will then transfer to a London theatre.
Marlowe Theatre Director Mark Everett (pictured) welcomed the news: "Up until now we have primarily been a receiving house, with touring companies coming to us. With this award, we are moving into producing our own work, with The Marlowe Studio's first production in the autumn.
"This support from the national arts funding body reflects really well on all of us and shows confidence in the direction our theatre is going in, particularly in The Marlowe Studio. I am delighted."
Full details of the production will be announced next month (August).
