Some Riot Theatre's GLITTER PUNCH Gets London Run This February

By:

Some Riot Theatre in association with the King's Head Theatre present GLITTER PUNCH, written by Lucy Burke and directed by Peter Taylor.

16-year-old Molly wants to escape her dreary college existence, her over worked mother and alcoholic stepfather. When she collides with the mysterious John, the two embark on a journey of forbidden love, pushing the boundaries of conventional romance and forcing us to question how far we would really go for the one we love.

At its heart, Glitter Punch is a coming of age tale about the search for love and belonging. However through Molly's eyes, we experience but also question her perspective on the developing relationship with John, as issues of consent and grooming begin to emerge.

Although the age of consent in the UK is 16, the law states that a sexual relationship between someone who is in a position of trust and a person to whom that trust extends, including those young people between the ages of 16 - 18, is illegal. Glitter Punch forces us to look at and reevaluate the laws on the age of consent and consider at what age we really reach adulthood. These issues are not only deeply resonant to the company but are now more than ever becoming an important issue in contemporary society.

Performances run 8th-25th February with Press Night* on 9th Feb 2017. Previews (8th/9th Feb) are £10; 10th onwards £15-£18.

Some Riot Theatre is an exciting, emerging theatre company specialising in new writing. Their debut play A Series of Unfortunate Breakups premiered in January 2016 with two consecutive sell out runs at Camden Fringe venues before going on to a sell out, four week run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2016. Glitter Punch is their second play and already has been shown to a sell out audience at The Bunker as well as beating thousands of applicants to win the opportunity to be read by two time Olivier winner Simon Stephens as a part of the Pint Sized Plays Initiative. With notoriety growing exponentially, Some Riot Theatre have been tipped for big things in 2017 and are definitely one to watch.

The King's Head Theatre is London's first and foremost pub theatre and is led by Artistic Director, Adam Spreadbury-Maher. New writing, revivals, musicals, opera, cabaret and queer work sit side by side in an unashamedly eclectic programme of work. Thanks to an in-house agreement with Equity, The Kings Head Theatre are leading the way when it comes to ethical employment on the fringe whilst the resident trainee director's scheme continues to provide comprehensive, vocational training to the rising stars of tomorrow. With high profile co-productions, national touring and transfers to and from the biggest arts festivals in the world, we're certainly not slowing down!
