"The world gives you a prize, take it and run

Some competition you've not entered, yet

You scoop the loot and claim the mountain-top

Who cares you have to give some small thing up?"

Simon Evans directs maverick theatre maker Chris Thorpe's new play Hannah, a poetically lyrical and playful reworking of Doctor Faustus about a young girl, her scientist mother and a mischievous lizard called Dave.

Hannah gets frustrated with the little things and wishes she had control; her mum on the other hand is out at work trying to save the world. But then Hannah's life is turned upside down and there are some very big decisions to be made. How far should she go to save the world?

Taking inspiration from Marlowe's classic, Thorpe's play brings magic to modern life and takes the audience on a mesmerizing and vertiginous journey that examines the lure of power, control and choice, appearance and reality.

Using video projections, this new adaptation will transport audience members to the outer realms of Hannah's imagination. The production will also feature magic and illusion, drawing on Simon Evans' experience as a magician.

The cast is Kae Alexander as Hannah, Irma Inniss as Mum, Ian Keir Attard as Dave and Rhys Rusbatch as the Narrator.

Chris Thorpe is a writer, performer and theatre maker. He was a founder member of Unlimited Theatre and still works and tours with the company. He is also an Artistic Associate of live art/theatre company Third Angel. His credits include There Has Possibly Been An Incident (Edinburgh/Soho); I Wish I Was Lonely (Edinburgh/tour), Dead End (mala voadora), The Oh Fuck Moment (Edinburgh Fringe/Tour), Come To Where I'm From (Paines Plough) and Here I am (West Yorkshire Playhouse).

Simon Evans directs. His credits include The Silence of the Sea (Donmar/Trafalgar Studios), The Duchess of Malfi (Old Vic), Thom Pain (The Print Room), Madness in Valencia (Trafalgar Studios), Skyscraper (Public Theatre New York) and The Speed Twins (Riverside Studios).
