Sheffield Theatres' THE VILLAGE BIKE Begins Tonight, September 13
Written by award-winning contemporary British writer Penelope Skinner (The Sound of Heavy Rain, Sheffield Theatres and Paines Plough's co-production) and directed by Jonathan Humphreys (Happy Days), The Village Bike is a daring and hilarious play about moving to the countryside, becoming parents and growing up. Originally staged at the Royal Court in London, this will be the regional premiere of the play, continuing Sheffield Theatres' tradition of staging new writing in the Studio Theatre.
Amy Cudden (Dr Who) leads the company as Becky, the frustrated mother-to-be, alongside David Bark-Jones (Plenty) as Oliver, Christopher Harper (Upstairs Downstairs) as Becky's husband John, Caroline Harker (Auf Wiedersein, Pet) as Jenny, Sean McKenzie (Birdsong) as Mike and Alice Selwyn (The Bill) as Alice.
Jonathan Humphreys makes a welcome return to Sheffield to direct following his hugely successful production of Happy Days last year. He is joined by Composer and Sound Designer Alex Baranowski (Betrayal / Othello) and Lighting Designer Natasha Chivers, who reunites with Jonathan having worked together on Happy Days, for which she won the Theatre Awards UK Award for Best Design (alongside Lizzie Clachan). Fabrice Serafino will design for the first time at Sheffield Theatres, having designed for numerous well-known theatre, dance and opera companies across the country since he left his career as a dancer in 2004 and Juliet Horsley and Anna Morrissey complete the team as Casting Director and Movement Director respectively.
The Village Bike is being supported by local law firm, Hill Dickinson, who are funding new writing and projects at Sheffield Theatres over the next three years.
Tickets for The Village Bike are on sale now from Sheffield Theatres' Box Office, priced from £10.00 - £18.00. Call 0114 249 6000 or visit sheffieldtheatres.co.uk to book.
