Anyone who studies Drama or Performing Arts at a school or college in Sheffield is being offered a free ticket for productions in the Crucible as part of a new scheme called Ignite.

Sheffield Theatres believe that the experience of live theatre can be transformative and life- enhancing and is integral in offering a rich cultural education to young people. Ignite is a statement of support for those studying Drama and Performing Arts in Sheffield, and the schools that offer those subjects, at a time when the arts in schools are under threat.

Artistic Director Robert Hastie, who has launched the scheme as part of his inaugural season, commented:

'We are saying to young people with an interest in theatre, and to the schools they attend, we share your passion and we support it. If you study drama or performing arts in Sheffield, you can come to the Crucible for free. It's vital that we put our money where our mouths are about the value of live performance.

'And although we'll be liaising with schools to make sure we reach all those who are eligible, these tickets can't be booked by teachers as a group trip. We want young people to book tickets themselves with our box office, and start their own relationships with us.'

He added:

'Our doors are open to everyone. Alongside Ignite we will continue to offer £5.00 tickets for 16 - 26 year olds as part of Live for 5, we've dropped our lowest ticket prices with 10,000 £15 tickets across the 2017 season of home-grown work and we've also scrapped our booking fees.'

Ignite cards will be distributed to Drama and Performing Arts teachers to reach as many young people as possible in the city and students can either present this card to the Box Office, or provide a headed letter or email which confirms they're a Drama or Performing Arts student in a Sheffield school or college.

Free tickets are currently available for the productions listed below:

Julius Caesar
The Who's Tommy
What We Wished For
Desire Under The Elms
The Wizard of Oz

All tickets are subject to availability, and can be booked in person at the Box Office or over the phone. Eligible students are offered to one free ticket per production, with a second at £5.00.
