Second Skin Theatre's HUIS CLOS Transfers to The Rosemary Branch, Now thru Feb 2
By: BWW News Desk
Second Skin Theatre has announced the transfer of its hugely successful Five Star show (The Public Reviews) 'Huis Clos; by Jean Paul Sartre for a special two week run at The Rosemary Branch. Telling the classic story of three souls trapped together in Hell, the play is in keeping with Second Skin Theatre's unique style of dark and challenging theatre with a policy of presenting strong female leads. Inspired by a fateful ménage a trois involving feminist writer Simone De Beauvoir, Sartre's open lover and muse in 1944, Huis Clos is one of the more notable and revolutionary plays to present a proud and positive feminist figure. Charly Flyte plays Ines, an honest murderer, a manipulative lesbian... yet an opinionated and logical individual. Flyte plays the perfect foil for Garcin, played by Second Skin Theatre's principal actor George Collie, who is unable to face up to the consequences of his own cruelty and cowardice. Resident actor Eloise Black takes on the role of Estelle, whose terrible crimes she conceals with a stereotypical portrayal of a helpless woman whose sense of self can only exist through the validation of a man. The role of The Waiter, the enigmatic gatekeeper who swings wide the doors to an unexpected Hell, is played by newcomer Sam Watson.
"Hell is other people" - HUIS CLOS (NO EXIT) by JEAN PAUL SARTRE, directed by Andy McQuade from a translation by Frank Hauser, will play The Rosemary Branch Theatre, 2 Shepperton Road, London, N1 3DT, 23rd January, 2014 - Feb 2nd.
