The Royal Shakespeare Company has announced their plans to stage the premiere of The Heart of Robin Hood.  The show will mark the company's first large-scale show for a family audience in their newly renovaTed Royal Shakespeare Theatre at Stratford-upon-Avon.  According to their website, performances begin November 17, with an opening night scheduled for December 1, 2011.  The show will run until January 7, 2012.

The Heart of Robin Hood is written by David Farr and will be directed by Iceland's Vesturport Theatre Company's Gisli Örn Gardarsson.  The show follows Robin Hood and his gang as they steal from the rich but do not give it to the poor.  Marion must convince Robin Hood to listen to his heart in order to stop the evil King John from stealing the crown.

The RSC also announced several other shows in their season including The Taming of the Shrew which will run January 19, 2012 through February 18, 2012 with Lucy Bailey directing.

David Edgar's Written on the Heart and Helen Edmundson's The Heresy of Love will be mounted in the Swan Theatre in Fall 2011 and Winter 2012 respectively.
