RISING DAMP Plays Lyceum Theatre Sheffield, Now thru June 29
The brand new stage production of ITV's top comedy of all time, Rising Damp, visits the Lyceum Theatre from today 24 - Saturday 29 June, directed by the show's original star, Don Warrington.
Originally on TV between 1974 and 1978, Rising Damp follows the lives of Rupert Rigsby and his tenants in what is arguably the seediest boarding house that England has to offer. Rupert's unlucky tenants include Ruth Jones, an administrator at the university; Alan, a medical student and Philip, who is studying town and country planning. Between them, Alan and Philip are the focus and foil of the majority of Rigsby's many prejudices, usually at the expense of his dignity and standing in the eyes of Miss Jones, with whom he is hopelessly and pathetically in love.
This brand new stage production of the much-loved TV classic is directed by Don Warrington. Most well-known for having played the part of Philip Smith in the original TV show, alongside Leonard Rossiter and Richard Beckinsale, Don has also appeared in many television series' including Red Dwarf, Casualty and as soon as the tour ofRising Damp finishes its run, he will return to acting as he begins filming the third series of BBC TV's Death In Paradise, which will air later this year.
The stage version stars Stephen Chapman as Rigsby (The Syndicate, Where The Heart Is), Amanda Hadingue (the Bafta nominated Black Pond, Lead Balloon) as Ruth Jones, Paul Morse as medical student Alan and Cornelius Macarthy as Philip Smith.
Tickets for Rising Damp can be purchased from Sheffield Theatres' Box Office in-person, by phone on 0114 249 6000 or online at sheffieldtheatres.co.uk priced from £15.00*.
