Paul Foot Coming to Marlowe Studio, Canterbury

By: Oct. 12, 2015

THREE nights, three different shows: Paul Foot, one of this country's most eccentric and original comedians, is back in Canterbury later this month (October).

Paul has been a fixture of the UK comedy scene for many years, building a cult following for his brilliantly surreal brand of humour. But after appearances on BBC Two's Never Mind The Buzzcocks and Channel 4's 8 Out Of 10 Cats, Foot is on the verge of becoming a household name.

Studying mathematics at Oxford isn't the usual route to international comedy stardom, but it worked for Foot. He started to perform shortly after graduating, and before long won the BBC New Stand-up Award and the Daily Telegraph Open Mic Award. After reaching the final of the hit US talent show, Last Comic Standing on NBC, Foot continued to tour his stand-up shows (or live musings as he calls them) throughout the UK and Australia.

He has been a regular at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival for years and Paul Foot: Retrospective at The Marlowe Studio revisits three of these shows. By The Yard (2009), Still Life (2011) and Kenny Larch Is Dead (2012) are all very different.

As Paul says: "I think they turned out the way they did simply because of an urge on my part to experiment with all aspects of a comedy show. One is a show about structure with an unexpected ending, one is built around fantasies of my mind, whilst the other has two pieces which are uncompromising and extreme, but in different ways. They have all become shows I am very proud of and that I would love to share with my audiences today."

Paul Foot: Retrospective is at The Marlowe Studio at 8pm from Tuesday 20, Wednesday 21 and Thursday 22 October. Tickets are £13 per show or £32.50 for all three (booking fees apply) and are available from the Box Office on 01227 787787 or at marlowetheatre.com. The shows contain adult themes and language.
