One-Man Black Comedy DON'T LOOK DOWN to Play King's Head Theatre

By:

DON'T LOOK DOWN will play the King's Head Theatre, Islington, 20, 24 and 29 July 2016.

The Detectorists' Paul Casar stars in this one-man black comedy that takes a painfully funny look at the lows and lows of ageing. Max is turning 40. He finds a grey pube. He has a mid-life crisis. Max ends his relationship, quits his job, and tries to achieve one thing on his life list. He lurches from gyming to singing to ... Vegas, until he's penniless and faces a future at home ... back with Mum. Will Max find happiness, or will he be alone in his childhood bedroom forever? Don't Look Down takes us on a painfully funny, poignant rollercoaster ride, poking fun at our obsession with goals, and the pressures of manhood. From the team behind Edinburgh hit Making It! (**** a one-woman gem, **** entertaining and captivating, TNC Pick of the Fringe, 2014).

15 quirky characters, including Max, Natasha, Joe, Max's Mum and a larger-than-life Big Elvis, all played by Paul Casar (known to TV viewers as Paul from BAFTA-winning The Detectorists), are brought to life as Max battles with ageing, failure, and the pressures of turning 40. A heartfelt and bittersweet comedy for Generation Y who have to do it all.

Don't Look Down, written by Giles Fernando ( writer-on-attachment at the Oxford Playhouse 2015/16), is one of 20 pieces chosen by the King's Head for #Festival 46. Under the comedy, Don't Look Down asks why men turning 40 are now in the highest suicide risk bracket.

Hot on the heels of #Festival45 last Autumn, which debunked the myth that the festival format makes it impossible to pay actors once and for all, the King's Head Theatre is proud to present #Festival46. This curated 2 week season will feature 20 brand new shows from some of the UK's brightest young production companies. Encompassing theatre, comedy and musical theatre, #Festival46 will offer something for everyone.
