New Theatre Royal Presents BEAUTY AND THE BEST - First Christmas Show Since Re-Opening

New Theatre Royal in Portsmouth is set to produce its first in-house Christmas production since its re-opening in 2015, with a new adaptation of the classic romantic fable - Beauty and the Beast.

Written and directed by the theatre's new Chief Executive, Scott Ramsay, the adaptation will offer a new twist on the world-famous folk-tale. "We're excited to be producing our own Christmas show for the first time," comments Scott. "It's a huge leap forward for this historic theatre that no less than three years ago didn't even have a stage

Playing the role of the beloved Beauty is Kirsty Anne-Shaw while Craig Golding steps in to the hooves of the Beast. Joining them will be Portsmouth-born Jamie Papanicolaou who will play Beauty's brother and Timothy Lucas will play Frederick, an avid pursuer of Beauty.

Liz Garland will also join the line up as the owner of the Old Theatre Royal otherwise known as Madame Crummles. The production will also host a professional ensemble and over thirty young performers from the Giselle Academy of Dance and Theatre Arts in Portsmouth.

This beautiful adaptation of Beauty and the Beast marks 60 years since it was last performed in-house at New Theatre Royal. Inspired by Portsmouth's fascinating history, from literary greats to world-famous warships, the show will take audiences on extraordinary adventure through the local landmarks of Hampshire, starting in the docks of Old Portsmouth.

Beauty and the Beast run from 14 - 31 December and after the success of last year's production will also include a dedicated relaxed performance.

Silver and Gold performance tickets range from £19 to £29 with Preview show tickets from just £14.50. There will also be a range of Schools Performances.
