New English Ballet Theatre to Present TRYST: DEVOTION AND BETRAYAL, July 2-10

New English Ballet Theatre, founded by its Artistic Director Karen Pilkington-Miksa, made its successful debut at the Peacock Theatre in 2012. A highly profile performance at the ROH Linbury Theatre followed in October 2013 and this July sees the company return to the Peacock with an ambitious, exciting programme of five world premieres by the cream of the UK's emerging choreographic talent. With five performances at the Peacock Theatre and two at Canary Wharf's hidden gem of a theatre, Lanterns Studio Theatre, NEBT will present Tryst: Devotion and Betrayal, a varied and compelling evening performed by NEBT dancers and guest musicians with sets and costumes by rising designers.

Information on each of the world premieres follows:

Tangents, choreographed and designed by the former Dutch National Ballet dancer Daniela Cardim Fonteyne will be accompanied by pianist Viktor Sugeng performing movements from Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition (composed for solo piano in 1874).

Toca, with choreography and design by Brazilian dancer Erico Montes, First Artist/Royal Ballet, is set to music by the Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos (1857-1959).

Orbital Motion, choreographed by Valentino Zucchetti, Soloist/Royal Ballet featuring American composer Philip Glass' Violin Concerto No. 1; the design is by NEBT founder and Artistic Director Karen Pilkington-Miksa with Zucchetti and Emma Bailey, winner of the Linbury Prize for Stage Design 2011.

Suck It and See is choreographed and designed by Kristen McNally, Soloist/Royal Ballet and choreographer of one of NEBT's big hits of the 2012 season, 'Lonesome Gun'.

The evening concludes with a newly commissioned work by rising choreographer, Andrew McNicol, (recent commissions - Royal Ballet of Flanders and 2012 London Olympics) based on Tolstoy's novella The Kreutzer Sonata. This moving and tragic ballet features the Sacconi Quartet - founded in 2001 by four graduates of the Royal College of Music - performing Janá?ek's String Quartet No. 1 and British violinist Andrew Harvey and the French pianist and composer Anne Lovett performing the 1st movement of Beethoven's Violin Sonata No. 9.

We are committed to the continual reinvention of classical ballet and, this year, to giving choreographers Daniela Cardim Fonteyne, Kristen McNally, Erico Montes, Valentino Zucchetti and Andrew McNicol the creative space to explore its boundaries. What makes us different is how we work with talented young people from a variety of disciplines - dance, choreography, music, design and visual art. I'm particularly keen to promote the collaboration between all those art forms to commission work and to give solo opportunities to performers.

"Since our debut at the Peacock in 2012 and our performance at the Linbury Theatre last year, we've built up a wonderful team of extremely committed patrons and trustees whose support has been crucial in planning our 2014 season. NEBT's high profile band of patrons include Carlos Acosta, Royal Ballet principal dancer Federico Bonelli, Darcey Bussell CBE, choreographer and former ENB Artistic Director Wayne Eagling, Royal Ballet principal dancer Marianella Nunez, former Artistic Director of Scottish Ballet Ashley Page, Anya Sainsbury CBE, Wayne Sleep OBE, ENB senior principal dancer Erina Takahashi, and Executive Director of Lanterns School and Studio Theatre Canary Wharf Janet Viola.

NEBT former dancer, Isabella Gasparini was invited to perform with the Royal Ballet after the company saw her perform at NEBT's Gala at the Linbury Studio Theatre in 2013. She has recently become a full time Artist with the Royal Ballet.
