New Autumn/Winter Season at Scarborough's Stephen Joseph Theatre Announced

There's something for everyone at Scarborough's Stephen Joseph Theatre this autumn and winter with shows ranging from festive family entertainment to political drama, and including music and dance.

The autumn/winter season opens with You Have Been Watching (Wednesday 18 and Thursday 19 October). This world premiere from theatre company Dark Horse invites you to be part of the studio audience watching the filming of the latest episode of BAD, the TV sitcom everyone is talking about.

It's followed by George's Marvellous Medicine (Saturday 21 to Thursday 26 October), adapted by David Wood from Roald Dahl's novel. George tries to 'cure' his bossy grandma by creating a marvellous medicine, which has the most extraordinary effect!

Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 October bring Marvellous Mozart to the SJT. Presented in association with Music in the Round and its resident musicians Ensemble 360, this dazzling weekend festival will feature outstanding concerts, including one for the whole family, workshops and more.

Grammy-nominated vocalist Stacey Kent pays a welcome return visit to the SJT on Tuesday 31 October, with a programme including music from her latest album, I Know I Dream.

Dance company Tavaziva bring Izindava to the Round on Thursday 2 November - a breathtaking new work by choreographer Bawren Tavaziva exploring human fragility within our changing world.

On Friday 3 November, SJT audiences can see Sixth Sense, the new show from the astonishing Luke Jermay, a mind-reader, hypnosis and telepathy expert whose fans include Derren Brown, Dynamo and Uri Geller.

On Tuesday 7 November, Pip Utton is Playing Maggie. Pip Utton is an Edinburgh Fringe legend known for his spellbinding portrayals of Churchill, Dickens, Casanova, Chaplin and many others. Margaret Thatcher is probably his greatest challenge yet.

Wednesday 8 November brings RuPaul's Drag Race winner Jinkx Monsoon, accompanied by composer and musician Major Scales, in the bawdy, rowdy musical comedy The Vaudevillians, sponsored by Eat Me Café & Social.

Living With the Lights On is a high-energy, life-affirming, funny and touching look at living with bi-polar disorder. Join actor Mark Lockyer in a journey based on his own experiences, from his promising early career with the NT and RSC, through a breakdown, and a return to the RSC in 2016 (Friday 10 and Saturday 11 November).

From Tuesday 14 to Saturday 18 November, the SJT welcomes old friends Northern Broadsides in For Love or Money, a dark comedy about greed adapted by Blake Morrison from Alain-Rene Lesage's Tucaret. It will feature Northern Broadsides' Artistic Director Barrie Rutter in his final acting and directing role with Northern Broadsides before leaving the acclaimed Yorkshire theatre company next year.

North Country Theatre bring two terrifying tales to the SJT on Tuesday 21 November - MR James' Oh Whistle and I'll Come to You, and Charles Dickens's The Signalman, one played tongue in cheek, the other straight down the line - under the umbrella title of Nightmares in Norfolk.

First performed in 1953, Samuel Beckett's Waiting For Godot is a classic of 20th century literature. Bristol's Tobacco Factory Theatres presents its first major solo production, directed by Mark Rosenblatt, at the SJT from Wednesday 22 to Saturday 25 November.

That week is rounded off by Classical Meets Jazz, a high-energy programme of music from world-class pianists Eyran Katsenelenbogen and Tal Zilber in an afternoon concert on Sunday 26 November.

The ever-popular Buddy Holly and the Cricketers return with Holly At Xmas, now an SJT Christmas tradition, on Wednesday 20 December. And the visiting programme ends with another now-traditional music event - two concerts by Hammonds Saltaire Band on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 January.

And, of course, the season wouldn't be complete without two festive productions from the SJT team. A (Scarborough) Christmas Carol (Thursday 7 to Sunday 31 December) reunites the team that last year produced the hit production of Pinocchio - writer Nick Lane, director Paul Robinson and composer Simon Slater.

For the smallest members of the family, The Adventures of Aluki & Nanuk (Wednesday 13 to Saturday 23 December), a seasonal Tiny Times Tales, will tell the story of a little girl and her polar bear.
