Mary Pearson presents FoMO, mofos! (motherf***ers!), a kaleidoscopic, multimedia feast using the songs of Kraftwerk, John Lennon and Robert Wyatt and drawing from cult classics Blow Up and Mulholland Drive to explore the effects of the internet and global mobility on society.

Devised and performed by Mary Pearson, the show is headed out on a UK Tour with stops at the Waterside Arts Centre, 6th Oct and The House, Plymouth University, 11th October 2017 (Autumn leg).

This new solo performance, a deliciously surreal cautionary tale about watching each other and being watched, considers the onset of technology and its effects on us as humans. Comedic and at times sinister and vulnerable, this thought provoking, visually arresting work, described as a an 'art exhibition come to life' features a range of colourful costumes made by Liverpool-based fashion designer Alena Kudera, symbolic props, songs, dances and videos throughout. Influenced by popular culture, the performance focuses on a woman who is lost in a digital labyrinth, flashing back through other times and places. All eyes gaze upon her and their desire is to invade and capture her privacy.

Fear of Missing Out, Motherf***ers! is about how we present ourselves and how we spy on each other via our social networks. As human animals, we put ourselves on display for others. Via our online projections of ourselves, we display desire, vanity, friendship, threat, shame and empathy. The performance asks what impact this has on our lives.

Mary Pearson said of FoMO, mofo's!: "As a performer, I am used to being looked at by an audience. But in the auditorium, I can also see them, and feel their presence. On the internet and in social media, we constantly perform to audiences that we can't see or feel. We don't always know how far away or close they are, how many there are, who is looking, or even when they are looking. Still, on either end of the screen is a live and embodied presence. When I scroll through the events happening in my friends' lives, or read the latest posts about Brexit and Trump, I feel genuine [curiosity, envy, fear, joy, anger, anxiety]. How are we humans coping with looking and being looked at from so many different perspectives?

"FoMO, mofos! also interrogates the impact of technological advances on our relationship to time and space, with technology such as Skype and Facebook Live enabling us to communicate instantly with people across time zones and continents. With this global mobility, we can increasingly seemingly take over the world and the show considers what happens next with nothing seeming private and a growing sense of rootlessness."
