MORECAMBE Announces Final Tour This Fall, 9/7-11/8

By:

One of the biggest theatrical hits of the last year has announced its final tour this autumn. From humble beginnings MORECAMBE, went on to become the runaway success of the Edinburgh Fringe 2009 and then a hugely successful West End run where it scooped up the Olivier Award for Best Entertainment and a further nomination for Best Actor in a Musical or Entertainment. This Spring the production toured the UK to sell-out houses and MORECAMBE now takes to the road for one final time this autumn beginning at the The New Theatre Cardiff on September 7th and taking its final bow at the Malvern Theatre on November 8th.

In 1977, The Morecambe and Wise Christmas Special attracted 28 million viewers - half the entire population of the UK at the time. In the twenty five years since Eric Morecambe's untimely death his popularity has not waned. With numerous tribute programmes, TV re-runs and DVD releases, his work, as one half of Britain's most popular double act ever, has been kept alive and introduced to a whole new generation of fans. The hit one-man play that chronicle's the life of this huge talent embarks on a final national tour this Autumn. This is the last chance to see the show that had critics searching for superlatives and audiences rolling in the aisles.

From Morecambe Pier to ‘André Preview', from tumbleweed to Glenda Jackson, MORECAMBE offers a moving and gloriously funny portrait of the affectionate lad with the funny bones, the big-hearted perfectionist, the born entertainer.

Bob Golding ‘s extraordinary performance as the nation's all time favourite funny-man has been showered with critical acclaim and won an army of admirers. These include Eric's family and some of the country's favourite comedians who have been bowled over by the actor's uncanny likeness to the man himself, many of whom were Eric's contemporaries and friends.

This production was first presented in the West End in 2009 by Michael Edwards and Carole Winter for MJE Productions, Anna Murphy for Feather Productions and Guy Masterson for Theatre Tours International. More information can be found at www.morecambetheplay.com.
