MONTY PYTHON'S SPAMALOT Launchs U.K. Tour at New Wimbledon Theatre, 5/29-6/5

 Monty Python's Spamalot, the musical pardody based on Monty Python and the Holy Grail, is to begin its tour of the UK at New Wimbledon Theatre in southwets London.  Performances are set to run from May 29th through June 5th.  Additional tour dates and locations have yet to be released.

The show began its West End run at the Palace Theatre in 2006. It was originally scheduled to tour immediately following the end of its West End run in January 2009, but those plans were subsequently cancelled.  The original Broadway production, directed by Mike Nichols, won three Tony Awards in 2005, including Best Musical, and grossed over $175 million.

Spamalot features a book and lyrics by Eric Idle and music by John Du Prez and Eric Idle, based on the screenplay of "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" by Monty Python creators Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Michael Palin. The original direction was by Mike Nichols, with choreography by Casey Nicholaw. The cast and creative team for the new tour has not yet been announced.

 Like the film, Monty Python's Spamalot  is a highly irreverent parody of the Arthurian Legend, but it differs from the film in many ways, especially in its parodies of Broadway theatre. The musical tells the tale of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table on their quest from God for the Holy Grail, while somehow incorporating a chorus line of legless knights, men in tights (with killer legs), killer rabbits and sexy dancing divas.
