Midlands-based company Sheep Soup will explore the pains of grief and the pitfalls of artistic interpretation in a brand new musical coming to the Belgrade Theatre this spring. Following a sold-out run at Leicester's Curve Theatre, the critically acclaimed production now heads out on a UK tour, stopping in Coventry on Thursday 24 and Saturday 26 May.

Set in a community recording studio, this hilarious and heartwarming show follows a group of local misfits and musicians who get together to record a tribute following the death of their friend and occasional gig reviewer Jodie. Jodie's favourite singer-songwriter Hayley has penned a memorial song, but the makeshift band can't seem to agree on what form the finished track should take.

As arguments break out over what kind of tribute Jodie would have wanted, and even who she really was, it's unclear whether the song and dance they're all making about the project is really about paying their respects, alleviating their own guilt or just an intense form of music therapy.

In an attempt to make some sense of the situation, the group eventually delve into her surviving poems, diary entries and secrets, managing to have some fun amidst the darkness of their loss. As the story progresses, genre boundaries are smashed, friendships are built and destroyed, and everyone tries to avoid writing "Candle in the Wind"...

Following the success of their hit musical Mrs Green, Nottingham's BAFTA-winning Television Workshop graduates Sheep Soup Productions return with a comic yet stirring new show described by Exeunt Magazine as "a beautiful metaphor for the start of healing".

Directed by Adam Lenson, The Leftovers features an original script and an unforgettable new score by Rob Green and Nic Harvey. Casting includes Wreh-Asha Walton as Angie, Zara White as Hayley, Ben Welch as Jim, Tim Murphy as Russ and Phillipa Hogg as Yaz

The Leftovers runs at the Belgrade Theatre, Coventry on Thursday 24 and Saturday 26 May. Tickets are available to book now by calling the box office on 024 7655 3055, or by visiting www.belgrade.co.uk, where prices are even cheaper.
