On December 6, 2018, Kahchun Wong, Chief Conductor of the Nuremberg Symphony, will make his Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra debut leading the orchestra in a varied program repertoire that showcases his versatility as an artist with works by Dukas, Bartók, Barber, and Stravinsky. Joining Wong and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra will be pianist Denis Kozhukhin. Wong makes another major debut in February 2019, when he joins the New York Philharmonic for the first time ever in his New York debut, conducting their annual Lunar New Year Concert.

For his debut with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Wong will conduct a program of repertoire by a diverse group of 20th-century composers. The program begins with Paul Dukas' The Sorcerer's Apprentice, followed by Bela Bartók's rarely-performed Piano Concerto No. 3 with the acclaimed pianist Denis Kozhukhin. These works are contrasted with Barber's solemn and emotional Adagio for Strings and Stravinsky's incendiary Firebird Suite (1945). Wong's debut with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra will take place on December 6, 2018 at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall.

On February 6, 2019, Wong will make his debut with the New York Philharmonic, conducting their annual Lunar New Year Concert at Lincoln Center's David Geffen Hall. This will also mark Wong's New York conducting debut. Wong is only the second conductor invited to lead this annual tradition. The 2019 Lunar New Yeart Concert will welcome the Year of the Pig with a program themed around the element of fire, including Tan Dun's Violin Concerto: Fire Ritual (performed by Bomsori Kim in her Philharmonic debut); Shin Arirang, Dong-Jin Kim's version of the Korean folk song "Arirang", and Mozart's "Der Hölle Rache" from The Magic Flute, both performed by soprano So Young Park in her Philharmonic debut; Liu Yuan's Train Toccata; Stravinsky's Firebird Suite (1919 version); and Li Huanzhi's Spring Festival Overture.
