Jamie Birkett to Host West End Workshops This Easter

West End star Jamie Birkett is visiting the region this Easter to run a series of workshops for budding performers.

Jamie is known for appearing in BBC 'I'd Do Anything' in which she made it to the final 15 of thousands of hopefuls and worked closely with Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber and Cameron Mackintosh. This led her to receive the BBC performing Arts bursary and a place at London's Prestigious Mountview Academy of theatre Arts.

Since graduating, she has played several leading ladies in the West End, around the UK and internationally. Most recently Jubilee Climax in the West end production of 'Saucy Jack and the Space Vixens' and it's subsequent Edinburgh Run.

Before this she was fortunate to be nominated for Best Actress in the Off West End awards for her portrayal of Martha in 'Cross Purpose' and played Joanne in the London revival of 'RENT' to great critical acclaim.

Further professional credits include: Serena Katz in Fame (European Tour, Monte Carlo), Principle Female on Musial Starnights (European Tour), Princess Jasmine in 'Aladdin', (Sands Centre Carlisle), May-queen in Merrie England (Finborough) Ragtime, The Hired Man (Landor) Aladdin in 'Aladdin' (The Maltings Theatre) 'The Boyfriend' (Her Majesty's) 'Once upon a time at the Adelphi', Sondheims 80th, (Royal Albert Hall) Wire in the blood (ITV) and Rocketman (ITV)

Jamie has also played the Villain for the last two Christmases in the pantomime at The customs House South Shields, playing Wicked Stepmother in Cinderella and The Wicked Witch in Little Red Riding Rood.

Jamie will be running professional workshop sessions this April themed around the musicals Fame and Rent at Valley Studios in Gateshead, where she will be passing on her skills and experience from being part of these well known musicals to youngsters aged 7+. The workshops are being hosted in collaboration with Nice Swan Theatre Company who are known in the region for providing a stepping stone for students in the North East who are keen to make progress in performing and dramatic arts.
