Following the ongoing success of The Marlowe's participation programme, a new term of creative classes will launch next month (September). Based at The Marlowe Kit (The Marlowe's new venue on Stour Street), these provide the opportunity for all to attend regular classes in acting, writing and dance, which aim to help students learn theatre skills, build confidence and enjoy themselves.

Classes are fully accessible and range from five years up (including classes for adults), offering structured progression through the companies as well as mentoring and guidance from professional actors and theatre makers. There are also regular opportunities to perform on The Marlowe stages, which regularly host both world-famous and home-grown productions.

Highlights of the 2017/18 academic year included The Marlowe Youth Company and People's Company launching performances at The Marlowe Kit with The Festival Of The Moon. This included productions of The Emperor Of The Moon and The Rover by Canterbury's Aphra Behn (164-1689), Britain's first professional female playwright.

The festival also included work from all of The Marlowe's creative classes who explored Kent-based writers of the past, including Christopher Marlowe, Ian Fleming, Charles Dickens and HG Wells.

The coming term is an exciting time to join a class. Students will be involved in productions including Return Of The Unknown, an immersive theatrical journey commemorating the centenary of the Armistice, set at Dover Marine Station. There will also be a new Youth Company production exploring our upcoming exit from the European Union, and continued exploration of local writers.

The Theatre's Creative Engagement Manager, Paul Ainsworth, said: "The Marlowe's creative classes are at an exciting stage of their development. With a new venue and local and national landmark events in the upcoming year, our participants are exploring challenging and cutting-edge work. The passion of our participants always inspires us here and I'm always impressed by the fun and focused tone of the sessions."
