[Foreign Affairs] presents the world premiere of THE HELMER PROJECT, a powerful double-bill of gripping Scandinavian dramas that cut to the heart of the human condition, running Monday 2 November - Sunday 22 November 2015.

Henrik Ibsen's powerhouse classic A DOLL'S HOUSE (1879) and Jakob Weis' hard hitting modern day sequel HELMER HARDCORE (2007) will be performed in rep for the first time.

This joint presentation allows the two plays to thematically enrich one another, giving rich context to Weis' work and allowing Ibsen's masterpiece to be viewed in a fresh light.

A DOLL'S HOUSE

Henrik Ibsen, 1879
Translated by Sian Mackie and Paul Russell Garrett World premiere of a new English translation

When a long held secret is finally revealed, Nora's marriage is threatened and all she thought she held dear begins to crumble around her.

This newly commissioned translation of A Doll's House explores the roles that society impose on women, showing Ibsen's radical work to be as relevant today as it has ever been.

HELMER HARDCORE - A DOLL'S HOUSE 2

Jakob Weis, 2007
Translated by Paul Russell Garrett
World premiere of the first English translation

Set in the present day, Helmer Hardcore takes place in the Helmer family bathroom the day after the events of A Doll's House. Written by award-winning Danish playwright Jakob Weis, Helmer Hardcore delves into the A Doll's House character Torvald's extreme reaction to the events of Ibsen's classic, and is a brutal dissection of 21st century masculinity confronting its own social identity.
