EUSOG Presents OLIVER! at the Pleasance Theatre The Edinburgh University Savoy Opera Group (EUSOG) present their production of the classic musical, Oliver! With music, lyrics and book by Lionel Bart, this is an iconic tale of cruelty and murder that exposes the malice of 19th century Victorian London as well as featuring some of the most well-known and well-loved songs in musical theatre.

The show is well-known and well-loved having been performed on stages across the world an innumerable amount of times. Our production will confront what you expect of this show, subverting the heightened reality of musical theatre and challenging your assumptions about the tale of the little orphan boy who dared to ask for more. Oliver! was first performed by EUSOG in 1988 as the first non-Gilbert and Sullivan production by the company. We are now incredibly excited to return to this classic and give it a new and exciting twist in the lead up to the 30 year anniversary of our first production.

After spending his years under the sadistic eye of the lecherous Mr Bumble and Widow Corney, Oliver finally escapes the workhouse and finds refuge in London. He is taken in by a gang of thieving pickpockets led by the eccentric but manipulative Fagin. Plunged into a villainous world he has little experience of, he is exposed to the underbelly of the worst thieves and bad characters London has to offer. His desire to find happiness in this unfriendly world sparks a chain of events that has our characters questioning whether they really are beyond redemption and if, behind the drunken illusions, they all are simply searching for something, or someone, to love.

The show will be running in Pleasance Theatre from Tuesday 28th November to Saturday 2ndof December at 7.30pm with a Saturday matinee performance at 2.30pm. Tickets are £12.50 and concession tickets are £8.
