As soon as One Production's stylised take on web-based communication became apparent (robot voice: "SMILEY FACE"), my heart sank. Truly, I'd had enough of this condescending take on the zeitgeist after last year's Edinburgh Festival.

Then the dual storylines cranked up, and the audience was absorbed in a tale of a troubled marriage, physical and psychological trauma, truth and deceit.

The young cast's ability with accents was variable, but there were some excellent vocals on show, particularly from Helen Hart. This company is also performing Spring Awakening and I made a bet with myself before looking at the cast list that she would be playing Wendla. She is. I'm very much looking forward to seeing her in action again - a beautiful range, winsome eyes, and bearing more than a passing resemblance to a younger Julie Atherton.
