Duke of Kent Visits Swindon Dance
His Royal Highness The Duke of Kent visited Swindon Dance today, and was treated to an array of different dance styles, including contemporary, urban and ballet, alongside a ten minute performance by a mixture of current and alumni students.
"The visit was a huge success" said Marie McCluskey, Artistic Director. "It really highlighted the importance of supporting grass roots arts, and the Duke thoroughly enjoyed meeting our ex-students (pictured). He particularly enjoyed watching the urban class, and was very impressed with the hip hop moves. He stating that he had never seen anything like it and was so impressed with their strength and skill. He was quite taken".
His Royal Highness, who has a keen interest in The Royal ballet, and opportunities for young people to develop in dance, spoke to a variety of young dancers, who have accessed dance through Swindon Dance's various youth and community-outreach initiatives.
