In a string of UK engagements in March 2024, conductor Gemma New will make her debut with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as a return appearance with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, to be broadcast live on BBC Radio 3. New appears with the BBC SSO on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at 7:30pm, before making her LPO debut at Southbank Centre's Royal Festival Hall on Friday, March 22, 2024 at 7:30pm. A second LPO program will follow on Sunday, March 24, 2024 3:00pm at Eastbourne's Congress Theatre.

On Thursday, March 7, 2024 at 7:30pm, New conducts the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra in a program titled Barber Violin Concerto, featuring violinist and BBC New Generation Artist Geneva Lewis.The program at Glasgow City Halls also includes Brahms' Symphony No. 4 in E minor and Sarah Gibson's warp & weft (2021), a work inspired by the art of weaving and the creative process at large, as exemplified by pioneering feminist artist Miriam Schapiro.

On Friday, March 22, 2024 at 7:30pm at Royal Festival Hall, New makes her debut with the London Philharmonic Orchestra in Romeo and Juliet, a program pairing excerpts from Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet ballet with the "Fantasy Overture" from Tchaikovsky's orchestral work of the same name. The program also includes Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 3, with American violin sensation Randall Goosby as featured soloist.

On Sunday, March 24, 2024 at 3:00PM at Eastbourne's Congress Theatre, New leads Randall Goosby Plays Mozart, featuring the LPO and Goosby in Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 3 and excerpts from Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet, with a second Mozart piece, ballet music from Idomeneo, also appearing on this program.

During a tightly paced schedule that takes her through North America, Europe and her native New Zealand, New also makes debuts this season with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre National de France, Orchestre National Bordeaux Aquitaine, Orchestre de l'Opéra de Rouen-Normandie, Bamberger Symphoniker, Niedersächsisches Staatsorchester Hannover, Orquesta Nacional de España, Orquesta Sinfónica de Barcelona, Lahti Symphony Orchestra, Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, and her subscription debut with the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

About Gemma New

New Zealand-born Gemma New is the Artistic Advisor and Principal Conductor of the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and Music Director of Canada's Hamilton Philharmonic Orchestra. New is the recipient of the prestigious 2021 Sir Georg Solti Conducting Award.

In Summer 2023, New made debuts at the BBC Proms with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and Mostly Mozart Festival at Lincoln Center, and returned to the Hollywood Bowl with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Additional festival appearances included Chicago's Grant Park Music Festival, Festival de la Chaise-Dieu with Orchestre National de Lyon and Opera Theatre of St. Louis, where she led a production of Susannah. She also appeared at the Oregon Bach Festival, conducting a performance of Vaughan Williams' A Sea Symphony.

During her 2023/24 season, New makes debuts with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Vancouver Symphony, Orchestre National de France and Bamberger Symphoniker. North American returns include Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Seattle Symphony, and Orchestre symphonique de Montréal. Continually in demand in Europe, New also conducts the Malmö Symphony Orchestra, Orquesta Sinfónica de Barcelona y Nacional de Cataluña, Orquesta Nacional de España, Orchestre de l'Opéra de Rouen-Normandie, Orchestre National Bordeaux Aquitaine and Staatsorchester Hannover.

New previously served as Principal Guest Conductor of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Resident Conductor of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra and Associate Conductor of the New Jersey Symphony. A former Dudamel Conducting Fellow with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Conducting Fellow at Tanglewood Music Center, she was awarded Solti Foundation U.S. Career Assistance Awards in 2017, 2019 and 2020, before receiving the 2021 Sir Georg Solti Conducting Award.
