Barrow Street Productions Presents PIKE ST.
Following the notable success of No Child..., which ran for a year at Barrow Street Theatre in New York and debuted at Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2010, Nilaja Sun returns to The Fringe with her new one-woman show, PIKE ST. fresh from a strong critical response in the U.S.
As with OBIE award-winning show, No Child..., in PIKE ST. Sun portrays every character on stage, using her humour, political incisiveness, and virtuosity to breathe vivid and compelling life into a world of characters living on New York's vibrant Lower East Side.
Set in a diverse neighbourhood in the shadow of Manhattan Bridge, PIKE ST. tells the story of a desperate mother unable to move her stricken daughter down five flights of stairs during an approaching hurricane. As she works to keep the electricity flowing into her daughter's respirator, an entire community of colourful characters - a decorated war veteran, her ne'er-do-well father, and her octogenarIan Downstairs neighbour - offer their help, casting new light on the phrase "it takes a village."
As Sun weaves a whole world around her with meticulous dexterity, audiences will delight in her ability to create not only a mesmerising central character, but also a fascinating supporting cast, each of whom have their own intricate stories. Amidst the chaos, Evelyn plans for more than just survival; she fights for healing and redemption.
Tickets can be purchased here.
