Aorta in association with the Old Red Lion Theatre presents WHAT WE'RE UP AGAINST- UK premiere of 7 short plays by award-winning playwright and Pulitzer Prize nominee Theresa Rebeck TUESDAY 8TH FEBRUARY - THURSDAY 3RD MARCH 2011
PRESS NIGHT: THURSDAY 10TH FEBRUARY, 8:00PM
Paranoid architects, a funeral home mix up, sodas and resentment on the beach - What We're Up Against marks the UK Premiere of seven short plays by Pulitzer Prize nominee Theresa Rebeck. Contemporary America reveals itself with wit and poignancy in these acutely observed short plays, packed with "sharp-witted, sharp-elbowed comedy" (New York Times). Expect betrayal, treason and poor behaviour. A lot of poor behaviour.
Theresa Rebeck is an award-winning screenwriter, novelist and author of the hit American play Mauritius. She has a long standing association with the Manhattan Theatre Club, with more than a dozen plays produced on and off Broadway, and she is currently scripting a series for NBC, produced by Stephen Spielberg.
The cast includes Michael Benz (As You Like It, Globe), Tom Cornish (The Country Girl, Apollo), Adrian Deasley (Riflemind, Trafalgar Studios), Demi Oyediran (Joe Turner's Come and Gone, Young Vic) and Sally Scott (Peter Hall's Love's Labours Lost). The production is directed by Rob Hale.
The Old Red Lion is a 60-seat theatre situated in Angel, in the heart of Islington. For over 30 years the theatre has played host to some of Britain's most exciting theatrical talent, since its foundation in 1979 as the Old Red Lion Theatre Club. In July 2010 Henry Filloux-Bennett took over the artistic directorship of the theatre, and in October 2010, a new space was launched, the New Red Lion.
