Anthony Horowitz's MINDGAME Heads to Coventry

Direct from the pen of the bestselling author and acclaimed screenwriter Anthony Horowitz, Angela Browne and Tabs Productions present a mind-bending psychological thriller at Coventry's Belgrade Theatre this March.

First adapted from the novel of the same name in 1999, Mindgame follows the story of Mark Styler, a writer of glossy true crime paperbacks seeking out an interview with the notorious serial killer Easterman. In order to reach the man and claim his prize, he must first find a way to get past Dr Farquhar, the quixotic head of the Fairfields asylum where Easterman is being kept.

But Style soon discovers that all is not quite as it seems. As he delves deeper and deeper into the story, he comes up against some pressing questions and startling discoveries. Who is the mysterious Borson? Where did he get the meat in the fridge? And why is there no skeleton in the closet.

Birmingham born and trained Michael Sherwin stars as Farquhar in this thrilling new tour, alongside Andrew Ryan as Mark Styler, whom Midlands theatre-goers may recognize from recent appearances in the Birmingham Hippodrome Christmas pantomime.

A natural polymath, Anthony Horowitz has built an impressive reputation as one of the most prolific British writers today, working across a wide variety of media and producing stories for readers and audiences of all ages. Best known as a novelist and TV screenwriter, he is also a successful journalist and playwright. To date, he has written over 40 different books, as well as several scripts for the stage and big and small screens.

Among his most popular works are the Alex Rider teen spy books, estimated to have sold around 19 million copies worldwide, which he has also adapted into a feature film. Other children's books include the comic Diamond Brothers series, as well as the young adult horror series The Power of Five.

Adult novels include his Sherlock Holmes stories House of Silk and Moriarty, commissioned by the Conan Doyle Estate and Orion Books, and a James Bond novel Trigger Mortis, commissioned by the Ian Fleming Estate. He is also responsible for writing and creating some of the UK's most beloved television dramas, including Foyle's War, Midsomer Murders and New Blood.

A regular contributor to national newspapers and magazines on subjects ranging from politics to education, Horowitz is also on the board of the Old Vic Theatre, and has been a patron of East Anglia Children's Hospices and the anti-bullying charity Kidscape since 2008. In 2014, he was awarded an OBE for his services to literature.

Anthony Horowitz's Mindgame runs at the Belgrade Theatre 14-17 March. Tickets are available to purchase now by calling the Box Office on 024 7655 3055, or by visiting www.belgrade.co.uk where prices are even cheaper.

The Belgrade Theatre is part of a network of organisations promoting engagement with arts and culture in the lead-up to Coventry's City of Culture year in 2021. In December 2017, supporters of the Coventry bid gathered at the Belgrade Theatre in the heart of the city to watch the announcement live from Hull, with press on hand to broadcast their reactions to the country. Over the next few years, we will be working closely with both the City of Culture Trust and with communities across the region to present an exciting programme of shows and events reflecting the diversity and passion that made Coventry's bid a success.

In March 2018, the Belgrade Theatre marks 60 years since its opening in 1958. To celebrate, an exciting programme of shows and events has been planned for the year ahead, developed in close partnership with our local communities and partners, including a performance takeover of the nearby Coventry Evening Telegraph building in July, followed by home-produced shows and an anniversary gala this autumn.
