A Modern Musical Twist on A Tale As Old As Time Comes to Edinburgh Fringe
![]()
A new musical that turns Disney's Beauty & the Beast on its fairy-dusted head! A beau replaces Belle, and the only beast is an evil mayor determined to make the townspeople's lives as grim and dark as her knicker drawer.
Fin, a handsome gay man in a rural French town, has his life turned upside down when he stands up to Agatha Bliss, the town's xenophobic mayor, and her new anti-immigration and homophobic laws. Fin must confront her beastly ignorance, and separate fact from fake news - which is nearly impossible to do when the tiniest of hands have access to the Twitter codes.
"Disney inspired us, but there are no singing teapots here!" says composer Joe Kiely. "Our version of a tale as old as time explores corruption, power, love, the battle against ignorance and the tragic consequences of intolerance! It's biting satire with a heart of rose-gold."
Writer Stephen Zappia is a dedicated crusader for the representation of LGBT artists in the performing arts industry, "We are a company of queer individuals and allies, passionate about LGBT rights and the importance of diversity, especially in our current social and political climate".
Off-Broadway musical theatre performer Courtney Powell is excited to make her return from New York to Edinburgh "This will be my fifth Edinburgh Fringe season, and we hope you enjoy Fruity & The Tweet as much as we've enjoyed creating it for you."
