THE CALM BEFORE... "investigates the fear, fight and success of the human condition in the face of unpredictable darkness."Building on the hyper-kinetic and theatrical content The Chimera Project is known for, Malgorzata Nowacka's THE CALM BEFORE...blurs the lines between theatre and urban and contemporary dance, echoing the multifaceted nature of society.
The Chimera Project will present the third annual FRESH BLOOD FESTIVAL featuring "groundbreaking, innovative and surprising works by emerging contemporary Canadian choreographers in diverse dance forms." Each choreographer has five minutes to showcase their work. Choreographers this year include: Paul Charbonneau (Paula Citron FRESH BLOOD award 2011); Waawaate Fobister; Kyra Jean Green, Cadence Bridges Ballet (Audience Choice award 2011); ILL NANA/DiverseCity Dance Company; Kayt MacMaster*; Jacob Niedzwiecki; Auja Ragnarsdottir; Marlowe Porter; Anjelica Scannura; Ritmo Flamenco (Audience Choice award 2011); Elke Schroeder; Liisa Smith; Juanita Suarez; Jamee Valin, Valence Movement (dance theatre); and Niki Wozniak, Desiraeda Dance Theatre. *performed exclusively on March 17.
