Stratford Shakespeare Festival General Director Antoni Cimolino has announced that proceeds from the October 14 performance of Cyrano de Bergerac will be donated to the Actors' Fund of Canada. Ticket prices for the 8 pm performance range from $47-$79 and are available online at stratfordfestival.ca or by phone at 1-800-567-1600. Colm Feore stars as the titular Cyrano in a performance that has been hailed as "everything you could want.dashing, funny, heartbreaking "(Robert Crew, The Toronto Star).

The October 14 benefit performance carries on an annual tradition of benefits for the Fund the Festival has maintained since the Fund's inception over 50 years ago, making the Stratford Shakespeare Festival the Fund's largest benefactor among Canadian theatres. Commenting on Stratford's half-century of support for the Fund, Mr. Cimolino said, "Over the past 50 years, the Actors' Fund has shown itself to be a deep well of compassion for the most vulnerable members of the theatrical community. Every night, on every stage in Canada, artists who have been helped by the Fund perform for appreciative audiences. We are proud to be able to support this organization whose work has had such a positive impact on the lives and careers of many thousands of our colleagues in Canadian theatre."

The Actors' Fund of Canada is the lifeline for Canada's entertainment industry. Performers and others who work behind the scenes in film and television, theatre, music and dance can apply for emergency financial aid from the Fund, which recently set a new record for the amount of financial aid delivered to industry members in a single year, topping $600,000 in 2008.

The Fund is a registered charity that has paid out over $3.7 million in rent payments, grocery money, utility payments and other basic living expenses in the last 10 years. Performers, creators, technical staff and other production team members can benefit from the Fund, which receives no government funding and is wholly sustained by support from individuals and entertainment industry organizations.
