Shirley Best's CONFESSIONS OF A BABYBOOMER BOMBSHELL Plays at the Calgary Fringe Festival 8/1-8/3

By:

In these trying times of text messaging, body piercing and people eating bugs for money on reality TV, a world in turmoil called out for a hero. She was SHIRLEY!, a warrior housewife forged in the heat of battle...of the bulge. White Magic Woman Productions with the Calgary Fringe Festival presents CONFESSIONS OF A BABY BOOMER BOMBSHELL at the ArtPoint Gallery (1139-11th Street SE), Saturday, August 1 at 3:45pm, Sunday, August 2 at 5:45pm and Monday, August 3 at 7:45pm. Advance tickets are on sale now at www.calgaryfringe.ca.

"Shirley Best" is the hilariously outspoken alter ego of motivational humorist, and corporate inspirational innovator Zandra Bell, here to take the Calgary Fringe by storm. "Shirley Best (Zandra Bell) fires off jokes like automatic weapons... Shirley, at her best, is simply a world-class act." Colin McLean, Edmonton Sun

Zandra started out a "shy retiring government worker" with the Passport Office and was quickly promoted to western regional director. Then "my personality splintered," jokes Bell. In an effort to explore her creative side Zandra left her administrative career to pursue her literary and comedic talents, and thus her innovative "infotainment" company, "at wit's end" was born. A member of the Canadian Association of Professional Speakers and the National Speakers Association, these days she is renowned on the business scene for creating motivational "humor in the workplace" presentations, customized specifically to her clients' industry, profession or theme. No stranger to the Superior City of Calgary, she has been the keynote speaker at numerous local corporate events, and conferences and is a longtime partner in Calgary Tourism. In fact she has plans to open up a Calgary office within the next year.

A popular veteran of the Edmonton Fringe Festival, Zandra was rated twice by See Magazine readers as funniest Edmontonian, and is the author of "I'm Listing - Musings from a Modern Middle Aged Wild Wisewoman." She was honoured in the Edmonton business community as a Global Television "Woman of Vision", and more recently was nominated for the 2009 Mayor's Celebration of the Arts - TELUS Courage to Innovate Award in Edmonton.

A full-time international humorist, writer, performer and motivational speaker since 1985, Bell's numerous and varied talents were showcased in a segment of CBC's "On The Road Again," and she has been featured on WTN's "She's So Funny" and CBC Radio's "Madly Off In All Directions". Ontario fans loved her recurring comedic role in the CBC Windsor evening news as "Shirley Best, Investigative Housewife".
